Serbian Consulate opened in Perth

Serbia is a country situated at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe. These days when we hear about Serbia our first association is Nikola Tesla, famous Serbian-American inventor or Novak Djokovic, tennis superstar!

Serbs have migrated to Australia in various waves during the 20th century and established large community here. Estimations of the total number of ethnic Serbs (including by ancestry) in Australia vary between over 100,000 and 350,000.

Over past few years Serbia also became the place of interest for mining industry. There is remarkable interest among Australian businesses to work in Serbia and trade between two countries is increasing year by year.

On 12 January 2018 the opening ceremony for Serbian Consulate in Perth was held. One of the main tasks for Luke Simpkins, Honorary Consul of Serbia in WA will be to convey the message from Serbian Government and encourage Western Australian businesses to put even more effort to develop existing opportunities and identify new ones as well.

The ceremony was hosted by Marina Males and attended by numerous representatives from Rio Tinto, Byrnecut, Amec Foster Wheeler, other businesses, state and local governments, Tesla Forum of WA, universities, diplomatic corps, Serbian Orthodox Church, Serbian clubs and other community organizations.
